I know, I know, it may seem like a crazy thing to say but where there is competition there is demand. And where there is demand there is the potential for success!
But that often isn’t enough to allay our fears of entering a saturated market. If you’re anything like me you will have all sorts of questions swarming in your head…
- How do I stand out?
- How can I make an impact?
- How do I serve my clients better than my competitors can?
- Is all this stress and hard work even worthwhile?
These are the types of questions that can have you second guessing yourself at every turn. Trust me.
But the reality is you can stand out and make a difference, especially when you focus on something you love! How?
1. Be you
Everyone talks about authenticity like it’s going out of fashion (#rollseyes) but there’s a lot to be said for the power of uniqueness. There is only one you and I’m sure the person within you is special and has something amazing to say, so give him/her the floor and don’t let the rational side of you with all these dream quashing limiting beliefs get in your own way!
2. Always think value first
This is so important. As Gary Vee would put it, you have to jab, jab, jab then right hook. In other words before you try to make money think about whether you have earned it by sharing valuable content first.
Now if you’re thinking this is long! Well I hear you! When I was just getting started I was desperate to make money and the urge was always there to go straight in with the offer. But it just doesn’t work.
You need to demonstrate your expertise and start your potential client on the path of transition as quickly as possible. However be strategic. There is no point sharing blog post after blog post if you have no system for conversion.
3. Be consistent and always show up
Now this follows on nicely from point 2. You have to be consistent.
I will be totally transparent and say this is something I have struggled with. When you have multiple things to juggle (child, job, house, husband etc.) it’s not always easy to find the time to come up with content.
But the thing is, if you put out real valuable content every Tuesday for 9 weeks and you start to cultivate a following; when you don’t show up on week 10 you are shooting yourself in the foot.
In a saturated market where your competition is doing something eerily similar to you, you can’t afford to rest on your laurels.
If you struggle, like me, then batch your content. Schedule a few hours to sit down and create weeks or months worth of content in one sitting!!
4. Be visible
Now this one is perhaps the most important. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that just because you have points 1 through 3 down you are ahead of the game.
They all help, but if you’re still hiding behind the laptop screen then an integral cog in the wheel is missing.
I get it, I’m an introvert, but sharing your blog post on your FB page and now where else just isn’t going to cut it.
You need to put yourself out there in a big way. Make connections, build communities and don’t be afraid to champion yourself.
Hit a milestone – shout it from the rooftops. Have an epic fail – still shout it from the rooftops.
I promise you your ideal clients will appreciate the sincerity. And the true ride or dies, well they want to be there for the whole journey from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows.
